- Title Man Swims Across Murky Leicestershire Canal To Save Fox Cub
- Summary A family out dog walking spotted a helpless little fox cub struggling against the current of the grand union canal in Market Harborough. Russel Bellamy, 57, a technical advisor and impromptu fox rescuer, heroically removed his shoes and took his phone out of his pocket to slide off the embankment into the dingy water on 7 May. Russel and his wife Sharon's 22-year-old P.E. teacher niece, Seycha Panter, filmed the nail-biting rescue mission flanked by family dog Bon Bon. Seycha said: "As he got near the baby fox it swam towards him like it needed help and saving. "Uncle Russ lifted it out the water and swam back to the bank, then Auntie Sharon rang the local vets who told us to ring the RSPCA. "While we were trying to get through to them a lady came along and suggested we take it to the Leicestershire Wildlife Hospital." Seycha walked with her Aunt and Uncle back to the car and wrapped up the cold and tired cub. The cub bit Russel on his finger out of fear during the drive to the hospital and the family had to wait anxiously whilst he was checked for tetanus - thankfully, his vaccinations were up to date. The cub was placed in an incubator for four days and medicated with antibiotics because of a pneumonia development. The proud niece said she was bursting with emotion: "I'm so proud of my uncle for jumping in with no fear and worry about his own life to save another."
