- Title No Laughing Matter: Spotted Hyena Captured Walking on Front Legs Only In A Paralysed State
- Summary This unfortunate hyena appeared to be disabled from the waist-down when it emerged from the South African bush, scuttling across a track on it's front legs alone. Wildlife photographer, Frank de Beer crossed paths with the seemingly paralysed Spotted hyena in the Timbavati Game Reserve on April 10th. As it brushed past the long grass into the opening, the injured scavenger hobbled in front of the safari truck on its front legs alone at their heavy head and neck counter-balanced the lack of function from its hind legs. The cause of the disability was unknown to Frank but he speculated that it could've been a predator attack as lion and hyenas are known to clash over prey, or with another clan of hyenas. Frank said: "It could've been a fight with another clan of hyenas or even a narrow escape from a lion attack. "This truly is something astonishing to see a Spotted hyena survive in the wilderness only on its two front legs. "I was almost in disbelief as I was recording the clip of this remarkable animal conquering live." ENDS
