- Title Woman Shares Story of How She Was Scammed Out of £5,000 Two Days Before Her Holiday
- Summary This woman shared how she got robbed of her savings after answering a call from what she thought was her phone provider. On February 10th, Amina Koulougli was at home in London, England, when she explained how she had a message from her phone company to say had ordered a replacement SIM. Shortly after receiving the text, Amina then got a call from what she thought was the phone company, advising that they thought the request for a new SIM was fraudulent and asked if she had requested it. As Amina had not requested the SIM, the agent advised that they would share a text, and she would need to read the code so they could verify that they were speaking with the actual phone owner. Amina obliged, but as she finished reading the number from the message out loud, she noticed that it said the phone company would not call to ask for the number. Unfortunately, when Amina tried to ask the agent about this, they hung up before giving a straight answer, and Amina realised she had been scammed. Before Amina could try to call up her phone company to let them know she had been scammed, her phone was cut off, so she ran to her neighbours to ask to borrow a phone. When Amina spoke with the phone company, she thought they had been able to stop the scammers, but she noticed a few weeks later that she wasn't receiving any emails, and a forwarding address had been set up. This meant that the scammers had been able to get hold of all of her details, including her bank details, and had spent £5,000 at places like Selfridges, Flannels and Uber Eats. Thankfully, Amina was able to get her money back and go on her trip to Brazil as planned.
