• Summary When this woman heard crying, she opened a small bag to find a litter of puppies that had been ditched. Joanna Heeney was out on a walk in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, with two of her own dogs, when she heard faint cries as they walked past the rubbish dump on November 14th. After getting her dogs to sit, Joanna went over to the ditch to investigate, initially thinking it was baby rabbits. Joanna then noticed a tied-up plastic bag moving and opened it up to find a bunch of newborn puppies. Three of the puppies were deceased, but two were still alive, so Joanna promptly called for help to get them to her home. After friends helped to get the puppies home, she was able to get them under a heat lamp and feed them once they had warmed up. Thankfully, both pups survived and were adopted by a lovely family who confirmed the pups are doing well now. Joanna said, “I was so angry at the time that someone could do this to defenseless newborn puppies, but having had puppies of our own, I had the facilities and milk to look after them.”
