- Title Rare Three-Tonne Whale Rescued After Becoming Stranded In Shallow Waters
- Summary A shepherd’s beaked whale ended up stuck in shallow waters, leading to a gruelling rescue mission. The various clips showing the whale being helped were taken by Richard Harri on March 3rd, in Auckland, New Zealand. It took six hours for the rare animal to become free of the shallow waters. Estimated to weigh around three tonnes, a bystander attempted to stop the animal from beaching itself. Multiple calls were made to the Department of Conservation from locals regarding the animal and its welfare. A wildlife volunteer for the Department of Conservation, Shaun Lee, described the animal as a 'really rare' male shepherd's beaked whale. After six hours, the Department of Conservation and Project Jonah New Zealand were able to release the mammal.
