• Summary This male shark was spotted giving a love bite to a female shark during a mating ritual. On February 1st, Aiman Ali travelled underwater in Malé, Maldives, where they found a group of nurse sharks swimming close to the seabed. Reportedly, when male sharks attempt to mate, they bite the female's fin to roll them over into a mating position. Despite female nurse sharks often attempting to avoid male attention and trying to swim to shallow waters, male sharks supposedly persist by working in groups to block off the female shark. As this tends to take place briefly from June to July, in low-visibility areas, the courtship is quite uncommon to witness.
