- Title Homeowner Rescues Frozen Iguanas In Her Garden In Heartwarming Clip
- Summary A woman discovered two iguanas in her garden that had fallen from a tree after they had frozen during a cold snap. On January 16, Kayla Martion was at her home in Greenacres, Florida, when she spotted the iguanas on the grass. She quickly realised the iguanas were not dead but instead just 'frozen' due to a cold snap that hit the state, and decided to warm them up. In colder conditions, an iguana’s metabolism slows dramatically and their heart rate and breathing decrease as it enters a state known as torpor, which can look as if they're in a sort of coma. Officials in Florida typically advise people not to take the iguanas into their homes to help them warm up, as they can become aggressive and defensive when they come around. Using information she found online, Kayla bundled the iguanas into a box with blankets to warm them up and protect them from predators. The pair of iguanas eventually began to warm up and move, with one coming up to her window to investigate her cats as the smaller one quickly ran away. Kayla said, “I knew I had to do something, I couldn’t just leave them there in the open like that. “The next day, the larger iguana was on my roof by my bedroom window, just hanging out.”
