- Title Rare Seagrass ‘Fairy Circles’ Discovered In Scotland In First Known Footage
- Summary This rare seagrass formation is something that is rarely seen, yet was captured via drone footage in the Western Isles. The footage was captured by NatureScot on January 20th, in the Sound of Barra, Scotland. Typically, seagrass grows in dense meadows and is an important habitat for marine life. Sarah Cunningham, the Marine Protected Area and Marine Enhancement Manager for NatureScot, said: “As far as we know, this is the first video of seagrass fairy circles in Scotland’s seas. "It was once so common across Scotland that it was used to thatch houses in Orkney. “Our marine monitoring team call them seagrass doughnuts – but whatever you call them, they’re spectacular.”
