- Title Man Shows Policeman's Attempt To Fine Him In Malawi Before Being Released
- Summary A man was driving through Karonga, Malawi, when he was pulled over by police as they attempted to serve him with a fine, in a viral Instagram post with 5.5 million views. Charles Wright is driving alone from Germany to Cape Town and back up the east coast, all in his one-litre Toyota Yaris, in an attempt to drive over 35,000km in 30 countries. On July 17, as he was driving down a road in Karonga, the policeman stopped his car and allegedly tried to fine him for a missing registration on the back of his vehicle. Charles questioned the officer about their details to pay the fine, as it is allegedly illegal to process payment on the side of the road. He then set up his tent by the police station and waited for the officer to issue the fine. Eventually, Charles was handed his documents back and allowed to continue on his drive. Charles said: “From all my journeys across Africa, what I discovered is that the more you show the police that you’re prepared to wait, the more likely they are to let you go. "It’s a peaceful way to resolve things without stress or arguments."
