Adam's autistic son, George then swore at them in retaliation, which only provoked the instigator further. The groups approached each other, the man grabbed George's arm and pointed at him whilst he barked in his face, questioning the boy's comments directed towards him. The father was able to intervene and shove the initial aggressor off his son. After a back-and-forth attempt to diffuse the situation, others entered the confrontation, shouting at the duo. The situation escalated as another volunteer from the running event shouted at Adam to leave the forest. Since the altercation, Adam has spoken to the police and also the running event organiser, who was apologetic for the situation that took place.
