- Title Woman’s Headache Turned Out To Be A Brain Aneurysm
- Summary After being told her headache was just stress related, this woman was shocked to find out the real truth. Elizabeth Presson, a mum of two from Florida, experienced a persistent headache that was initially dismissed by her primary care doctor as stress-related. She was given steroids and a migraine injection but saw no improvement. Still in pain, she went to the hospital, where doctors administered multiple IV pain relief doses and performed a precautionary CT scan, which revealed a brain aneurysm. To ensure it hadn’t ruptured, doctors attempted a lumbar puncture, which failed four times before successfully being completed at a second hospital. Fortunately, the fluid showed no signs of bleeding, and the aneurysm was not the cause of her headache. However, doctors failed to warn her that the lumbar puncture itself could cause another severe headache. When this happened, she was forced to visit another hospital, where they diagnosed spinal fluid leakage and she underwent an emergency blood patch, a procedure that caused intense pain in her lower body. She was again discharged with instructions to rest flat, and her symptoms eventually subsided after four weeks of ongoing headaches. Elizabeth is now in Gainesville to consult with a Neurospecialist for further evaluation of her aneurysm.
