- Title Fisherman Captures Exploding Bombora At Great Barrier Reef
- Summary This fisherman captured a natural phenomenon called a bombora, whilst sailing around the Great Barrier Reef. On August 19, Luke Currie was sailing off the coast of Queensland, when the Bombora started occurring concerningly close to his position. An exploding bombora, also known as a bombie, is when an area of large sea waves breaks over a shallow area such as a submerged rock shelf, reef, or sand bank. As the wave passes over the shallow area, its shape is raised and steepened, creating a localised wave formation. Luke sat and watched as the exploding ‘bombies’ began erupting around him before speeding away from the risky waves.
