Rileigh McLain was at home in Kirksville, Missouri, when she recalled the moment a bullet came flying into her family’s car. As the family were travelling to holiday, her father’s driver side window suddenly smashed and they began panicking before noticing Rileigh’s neck was bleeding. They quickly travelled to the nearest emergency room, who concluded the situation was not an emergency and led them to a different hospital. It was then that the family found out Rileigh had a bullet in her neck and was lucky to be alive as it was half a centimetre from her carotid artery. Rileigh revealed that they later found out a man had been shooting dirt when he missed and the bullet had gone flying towards their car. Rileigh said: “I was shot in the neck on our way to family vacation by a stray bullet that came through the driver side window. “I was rushed to the hospital and released the next day to continue our vacation. “The bullet was a half a centimetre from my carotid artery so it was too close to pull out, they waited a year then removed the bullet.”
