The condition has affected Anna all her life, specifically with her eyelashes, which she has been pulling out since she was four years old. Anna captured herself during a ‘pulling episode’ where she yanked out her eyelashes whilst explaining the discomfort they cause, in a hope to raise awareness and bring more representation to the condition. She shared the videos online where they have collectively gathered over 7.4 million views and many have commented how they’ve loved seeing the condition represented online. Anna said: “I have had this condition since I was four-years-old when I first began pulling out my top eyelashes. I inherited this condition from my dad's mother and have had it all my life. “I have learned how to live happily with Trichotillomania and be as confident as I would if I had eyelashes. “It is important to me to advocate for this condition because there are millions of people also with Trichotillomania who pull hair from all over their body. “Even as a model, I have understood that beauty is subjective and hair is not necessary to feel beautiful or happy with myself and I wanted to share how this condition makes me feel with or without eyelashes. “I used to be ashamed of my condition but now I use it to educate others and advocate for my body focused repetitive disorder that millions of other people have worldwide. “I was scared initially to post the video, but many people commented letting me know that I made them feel less alone and they were happy to see their condition represented.”
